Free Auction Valuations

At Hutchinson Scott Auctioneers we guide you through the entire selling process — from valuation, collection and auctioning to receiving your payment for the sale.

Free online valuations

We offer a free online valuation service: simply send us an image and basic information and we will get back to you within 24 hours with a basic valuation and advice as to whether your item will be suitable for one of our sales.

All you need to provide is a high-resolution image of your item, a description (including measurements and information about any signatures, etc.) and your contact details.

Walk-in and home visits

No appointments are necessary — we are at the office five days a week between 9am and 5pm. By appointment, a specialist can visit your property to value larger collections of items; this service is offered free of charge.

Please note that proof of name and address is required when selling at auction.

Selling FAQs

1. Seller’s commission — 10% of the hammer price plus VAT, and a 1% insurance charge. There are no fees if an item is unsold.
2. Getting your items to us — we can help arrange collection of your items; the fee can be charged directly by the collection company or deducted from your sale proceeds. If you wish to deliver your items, please contact us to arrange a mutually convenient time.
3. Catalogues & results — if you are selling in the auction we will happily send a catalogue to your registered address on request. All results are available at the end of each sale day.
4. Payment — settlement statements and cheques are sent out within four weeks of the last day of the auction. Direct transfer payments can be arranged; please let our accounts department know at least two weeks prior to the auction.
5. Unsold lots — you will be notified of any unsold items within 14 days of the sale, and can re-offer the lot(s) with a lower reserve in a future auction or collect them within 28 days. Without instructions within 28 days, lots will be re-offered into a future auction at our discretion.
