Today Michael Scott and Paul Hodson hold regular Country House sales and specialist clock sales at The Mill in Embsay, near Skipton.

Our history
Coming from a Lakeland agricultural background and educated at Kendal Grammar School, Philip Scott started his employment in 1972 with Kendal & District Auction Mart as a junior auctioneer and valuer, selling livestock, general antiques and household furnishings. In 1975 Philip moved from Kendal to Northallerton to work for Northallerton Auctions, where he was employed in a similar role as auctioneer and valuer.
Having always had a great interest in the antique and fine art side of the profession, Philip set up Hutchinson Scott in 1976. The firm went from strength to strength, holding regular fine art sales and occasional general auctions in the Town Hall, Northallerton, and running many successful and memorable in situ house contents sales — until Philip decided to take semi-retirement.
Our future
Forty years on, Philip’s son Michael and his business partner Paul Hodson have taken the business forward from The Mill at Embsay, near Skipton.
Sales
We specialise in fine art & antiques sales termed Country House Sales. Specialist sales of fine clocks, horological items, barometers and scientific instruments are held at The Mill in Embsay, and sales in situ on individual clients’ premises may also be conducted depending on individual suitability and requirements.
Selling & valuations
Hutchinson Scott have always been, and will continue to be, a small, individual and customer-friendly business offering a courteous and professional service. We offer highly competitive commission rates for sellers, scaled to the value of individual items, and a comprehensive valuation service for insurance, probate and family division, with detailed illustrated inventories where required. Pre-sale appraisals and valuations are always offered free of charge.
